"True empathy is always free of any evaluative or diagnostic quality. This comes across to the recipient with some surprise. "If I am not being judged, perhaps I am not so evil or abnormal as I have thought." -Carl R. Rogers
I was born in Mexico, and my family immigrated to the United States when I was a young boy. At an early age, life asked me to adapt to stressful and radical change. I had to leave familiar surroundings, my beloved extended family, and a Spanish-speaking environment behind to start school in an unfamiliar place with a completely new language. Needless to say, the transition would be difficult for any young child. And the big changes would not stop there.

After completing a K-12 education in Texas, I moved to Washington DC to double-major in psychology and linguistics at Georgetown University. During my time in college, I was fortunate enough to learn enough Italian to be able to spend a semester studying abroad at the Università degli Studi di Firenze in Florence, Italy, as well. After graduating from Georgetown, I moved to Germany for a time before returning to the United States in early 2020, at which point I decided to change careers from being a language instructor to becoming a counselor. These experiences all carried a mix bag of grief, joy, defeat, and triumph.

All this to say, I believe life is made of transitions; change--both in the minute-to-minute of our days, as well as across the years--is the natural state of our lives. I believe that it is in the changes within ourselves, our life plans, our environments, and our relationships that we find some of our greatest challenges, as well as our greatest opportunities. Maybe you feel as if you are having trouble adjusting to something that has changed in your life, or maybe you feel "stuck", as if the change in your life has been halted. Regardless of your situation, history, or identities, I am here to tell you that you are not "crazy". Whatever challenge you are facing, I believe you have the capacity to overcome it and adjust to your life in a way that is healthy and satisfying to you. And you do not need to do it alone. I would be honored to welcome you as a whole human being to work through the issue you are facing together.

Speaking of whole human beings, I also exist outside of work. When I am not counseling, I am an avid musician; I mostly play guitar, but I love learning and composing songs on a variety of instruments. I also love to play videogames (some of my favorites include: most Mario or Zelda titles, Rocket League, Spelunky, Baba is You, and Resident Evil 4--original and remake), and I enjoy spending time in nature, walking, meditating, or trying new teas.
